Kyoto Connecting Rooms: Which Ones Can You Book as a Pair?

“Connecting rooms” can mean two very different things in Kyoto. Some hotels sell two connected or adjoining rooms as their own room type, so the pair is part of what you book. Others only accept a connecting request, which the hotel tries to meet on the day.

Below we separate the two, using only what each hotel publishes.

Quick answers

A bed or futon for each of 6

Sleeps 6 only with bed-sharing or extra beds

Washing machine in the room

Full kitchen with a stove

Two rooms sold as one room type*

Lists are built from what the hotels state. A room with a “Not confirmed” value is left out of a list rather than assumed.

* Sold as a pair: Our reading, not the hotel’s wording: when two connecting or adjoining rooms are sold as their own room type, booking that room type should get you both rooms together, unlike a “connecting request”. Most hotel pages do not use the word “guaranteed”, so confirm with the hotel if it matters.

Before you book

  1. Search for the pair room type by name on the hotel’s own site or booking page; a plain “2 rooms” search does not book them together.
  2. Check whether the two rooms have an internal door (connecting) or are only next to each other (adjoining). The tables say “Not confirmed” where the hotel does not state it.
  3. A connecting request is not a booking condition. If you need to be together with young children, book a pair room type or a single room that fits everyone.
  4. Enter every child’s age when you search. Whether a child can share a bed, and the price, depend on age.
  5. Count sleeping places, not only “max guests”: 5 people need 5 places unless a young child can share a bed under the hotel’s rule.
