Tokyo Hotel Rooms for a Family of 5

Most Tokyo hotel rooms are built for two. A family of five usually ends up choosing between three kinds of booking: one large hotel family room, an apartment-style suite, or a pair of rooms sold together as one room type.

Below are one real example of each, with every condition taken from the hotel’s official room or FAQ page. Where the official page does not say something, we show “Not confirmed” instead of guessing.

Room conditions last checked on official hotel pages: 2026-10-05.

Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo
MIMARU SUITES Tokyo Nihombashi
Tokyu Stay Shinjuku Eastside

Which one fits your family?

  • You want a regular hotel with five real beds in one room: Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo – Luxury Family Room.
The official page lists four beds plus a sofa bed for up to five guests, two toilets, and coin laundry in the building. No kitchen is listed.
  • You are staying a week or more and want to cook and wash: MIMARU SUITES Tokyo Nihombashi – Two-Bedroom Family Suite.
Two bedrooms, a full kitchen and an in-room washer-dryer. Up to six adults, plus up to two children aged 6 or under sharing beds.
  • You want two separate rooms booked together, not “on request”: Tokyu Stay Shinjuku Eastside – Adjoining Room B.
Two adjoining rooms are sold as one room type for up to five, with a washer-dryer and kitchenette. The official page does not say whether there is an internal door, so check this before booking. With four sleeping places, it works for five only if a young child shares a bed.

The differences that matter for five

Beds: maximum guests is not the same as five beds

All three are listed for five, but they get there differently. Keio Plaza’s family room lists four beds and one sofa bed. The MIMARU suite spreads six sleeping places across two bedrooms, using loft beds and futons. Tokyu Stay’s adjoining pair lists three beds (one of them 160 cm wide) and a futon, so five people only works if someone shares.

Children: who counts as a guest

MIMARU lets up to two children aged 6 or under share a bed on top of the listed adult capacity. Keio Plaza and Tokyu Stay allow free bed-sharing only for preschool-age children, one per adult. Once a child is in elementary school, Tokyu Stay counts them as an adult. See the Child Policy Guide for how this changes the room you need.

Laundry and kitchen

For a week-long stay, an in-room washer-dryer means you can pack less. MIMARU Nihombashi and Tokyu Stay both have one in the room. Keio Plaza has 24-hour coin laundry rooms in the building, and its room page lists a kettle and coffee machine but no kitchen. MIMARU has a full kitchen with an IH stove; Tokyu Stay has a kitchenette with a microwave.

Two rooms: guaranteed or just requested

Many hotels accept a “connecting room request” but cannot guarantee it. Tokyu Stay’s Adjoining Room B is different because the pair is sold as its own room type. Its page does not say whether the two rooms share an internal door, so ask the hotel if that matters for young children.

Before you book

  1. Enter every child’s age when you search. Rates and whether a child can share a bed depend on age.
  2. Check how many separate sleeping places the room has, not only the maximum number of guests. Sofa beds and futons count as places.
  3. If the room relies on a child sharing a bed, check the age limit for your hotel (often preschool, sometimes 6 or under, sometimes 12 or under).
  4. If you need two rooms side by side, prefer a room type that is sold as a pair. A “connecting room request” is usually not guaranteed.
